Smocked Sundress

Next project: a smocked sundress for Mina. I made one like this for each of my nieces – except for the last 2 :-(. Here is a photo of Jean, Sheena and John, from 1988. Sheena is wearing the sundress I made for her.

Here is the fabric and threads I have chosen. (yellow: JPC 2003[231]; green: DMC 369; blue DMC 796) I haven’t yet decided on a pattern for the smocking.

There will be little matching bloomers as well.

Mini Wrap Sweater

With the smocked dress finished I needed something new to work on. when I was in Campbell in January I bought an issue of Crochet today. Trina really liked the Mini Wrap Sweater pattern. Luckily it called for the same size yarn has I had bought for Mina’s baby blanket (Mary Maxim’s Starlette worsted weight) in spring green. The pattern is for size 2 and up so I down-scaled it some – without a baby here to try it on I’m not sure how it will fit.
As I had my (former) neighbours in for breakfast yesterday I didn’t get to the post office. But that was a good thing as I was able to finish the little sweater last night, so it has joined the package going to California.

So now I will need to look for another project (or finish something started long ago. Yes, I’m thinking of the Christmas tablecloth, Marjorie!)

Finished!

Mina's crocheted smock
I just finished Mina’s crocheted smock. I totally forgot about the buttons when I bought materials. But I had these little pink elephants in my workroom for many years; happy now to use them.

Tomorrow I go to the post office to send a parcel to California.

Easter weekend 2010

The weather has been absolutely amazing – 27°C, lots of sunshine. The sun did desert us this afternoon. Wind picked up. I was working on smocking Mina’s crocheted dress when I noticed an unusual light outside. I grabbed my camera and went out onto the balcony. I got these shots:

  • A few minutes later the sky turned very pink with dark clouds roiling in front:

  • Now the temperature has dropped; the forecast low for tonight is 4°C.
