Saving my life

What is saving your life right now?

What is saving my life right now?

In times past crocheting saved my life. Somehow organizing those threads helped me to organize my life. I crochet less these days, though I hope, after my visit to the optometrist next week, I will see better and in turn enjoy crocheting more again.

These days my computer and the internet save my life:

  •  the wonder of Skyping with my beloved daughter and granddaughter who are 4,000 km away.
  •  the joy of connecting with family and friends via email, Facebook, shared photos, blogs.
  •  the excitement of learning new things about the world we live in, from the news, from science sites, from gossip sites.
  •  the rest of just zoning out while playing solitaire.
  •  the fulfilment of creating a slideshow of memories
  •  getting a new vegetable in my Community Supported Agriculture share, going online to find a recipe.
  •  googling the address and printing out directions for a friend who need to travel to another city and wants to know how to get the hospital there to visit a friend
  • the lostness of a non-functioning computer and the relief in getting it back again

So I say loudly, “Thank God for my computer and the internet!”

Itty Bitty outfits

Mina is really too little to dress and undress with the itty bitty babies, but I like to make outfits anyway. One day she will enjoy them more. The original outfits Marjorie and I made are here: here and here.

I made the sundress on a visit to California last summer, and the purple pj’s this past winter. Right now the girl virtually lives in a bathing suit, so I made one for the babies, in aqua, similar to the girl’s. itty bittie babies Mina with the babies at Christmas (2011):

My Personal Day

I have learned to take the day off each year on May 4th. It’s just not a day I want to be sociable. It’s a day I need to just feel whatever I’m feeling; to mourn all over again — yes, even 26 years later. This year I went to Goderich again. I like that beach park (though I don’t hang out in the sandy-beach part).

Happy Easter

I want to give my favourite little girl an Easter present and candy isn’t, in my opinion, a good option. So I crochet a gift. This year I made two little owls, ‘cuz the wee girl likes owls, one wide awake, and one a little sleepy, using “Grace” thread by Patons. I downloaded the pattern from KnitPicks.

Love you, Mina!

I also made one with scrap yarn for my great niece, Hayden.

Fingerless gloves II

On Monday morning I spent about two and a half hours brushing snow off car in Delta Car Sales’ lot. I wore my fingerless gloves under a pair of stretchy chenille gloves. The first problem was getting the second pair on without pulling the fingerless glove down. I could get them on comfortably with a little effort. However, as the morning went on the FG slipped down more and more. But they were really nice and warm and I like them! I decided they needed to be anchored in place.

Adding the between-finger stitches was complicated by the hard use they had received. The yarn was somewhat felted in the palm. So the job I did was not very neat. I will adjust my pattern to reduce the number of stitches in the last complete rounds and then properly calculate out the number of stitches per finger. I need some more yarn!
