½ c unsalted butter
1 c brown sugar (I use part honey/agave syrup)
2 eggs
1¼ pumpkin puree
2 c flour (I use stone ground spelt)
1 tsp cinnamon
¼ tsp ground nutmeg
¼ tsp salt
2/3 c currants (I prefer chocolate chips and dried currants)
In large bowl cream together butter and sugar.
Add eggs and pumpkin puree.
Blend in flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg & currants.
Drop by spoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets & bake for 10 minutes at 350?
Cool on a wire rack
Makes 2 dozen
Notes:
My (defrosted) pumpkin puree is very runny so I add an extra cup of flour (includes ground flax seed and oat bran). This gives me more cookies.
I decided once again to attempt to knit. It’s not that I can’t do it, it just that it is not very comfortable for me, so I am slow, and my tension very uneven, thus I usually give up without finishing what I started.
This time I decided to tackle a little project: fingerless mitts for tiny hands. Using the Sirdar Click that I had used for Billie’s sweater I followed a pattern I found on the internet. What you see in the photo is #2 & 3 — the first attempt I undid after doing the second because the tension wasn’t even close! These are still too big for my little girl, I’m afraid, but she will (God willing) grow into them. Next, I want to do the adult size.
I also pulled out a project from a number of years ago — a ruffled scarf. I didn’t have enough of the original yarn to finish it, back when I was living on Ruskview Rd. So I found something close – Bernat’s Baby Sparkle. I also didn’t have the pattern, don’t remember where I found the pattern, so I tried to follow what was already done. I don’t think I did it 100% right, but it’s OK. And it is finished!
And then (why work on one thing when you can have many projects on the go at once?), I started a pair of “Adironak Socks” from the Fall ’09 Interweave Crochet magazine. I’m having a little trouble around the heel gusset, but I’m plugging away. Yarn is Kertzer’s On Your Toes (75% wool, 25% nylon with aloe vera) in shades of green.
I didn’t really like the fit of the first sweater I did for Billie. I found various patterns on websites for dog sweaters, including how to measure your dog to custom fit. However, in the end I just crocheted, tried on, adjusted throughout. I finished it, took the doggie for a walk and decided to modify it. Now I have a sweater that fits well.
I used Sidar’s Click #2147 Aran with wool for the collar and cuffs and Cascade yarn’s Heathers #8013 (100% Peruvian Highland Wool) for the body, both picked up in the clearance section of Mary Maxim. I crocheted the body in a alternating single and double pattern to give it a nice texture and density.
Istarted the project using the #8 bamboo crochet hook I bought in Cupertino in January; however, before the remake Miss Billie stole the hook and chewed it to bits. I was not pleased! I couldn’t find my 4mm hook so used a 3.75 to finish the project.
In Chronicles of Narnia, Voyage of the Dawntreader perhaps, the children visit an island that is inhabited by Monopods. Here is my interpretation of them. Originally I was going to give it to Billie to play with, but I fell in love with it, so it will not be chewed by the dog. He is keeping company with the Mini Mina Monkey Trish & Kianna found.
Scott, a boarder at Cheryl’s neighbour turn 41 today — and woke up to 41 pumpkins on the front lawn! Rita told Cheryl to invite everyone to come and get a pumpkin. So Billie and I walked over and chose a pumpkin, brought it home and carved it (that is, I carved it; Billie just watched intently, hoping she could eat it). Jack spent the evening glowing on my balcony.
Monday – baked the pumpkin and put 8 packages of pumpkin puree into the freezer. i do love pumpkin chocolate chip cookies!
